In recent times, special economic zones have become a popular mode of promoting economic development in developing countries. Through SEZs China has achieved immense economic growth, a model, which a number of developing countries are trying to emulate. India followed suite in establishing SEZs, however, it has not been able to achieve the same success as China. In this paper, I perform a comparitive analysis between India and China and study the impact on economic development. By highlighting the differences between the SEZs in the two countries I explain the reason for China\u27s immediate success and India\u27s slow growth.
