Sugar increases blood glucose and glycosylation of LDL and other lipoproteins. Omega-6 fatty acids are enriched in LDL and sensitive to lipid peroxidation. Glycosylated and peroxidized LDL initiates atherosclerosis.<p> Soft drinks and Becel margarines are discussed as harmful sources of sugar and omega-6 fat. Artificial lowering of blood cholesterol by phytosterols or statin drugs is questioned
