International student populations have been growing in Prince Edward Island over the past number of years. With declining population and demographic issues looming over Atlantic Canada, international students, with their high degree of acculturation and local credentials, provide an excellent source of qualified immigrants to the Atlantic Provinces, particularly Prince Edward Island. Although provincial and federal policies have been put in place to encourage international students to remain when they complete their studies, there is still a large discrepancy in the number of students that indicate they would like to remain and those that actually succeed.
