Fifty-nine Streptococcus suis type 2 isolates, recovered from pigs originating from Prince Edward Island, Canada, were tested for their susceptibility to eight antimicrobial agents by a disc diffusion method. All of the isolates were susceptible to penicillin and ampicillin. One third of isolates were resistant to erythromycin and trimethroprim-sulfamethoxazole. Susceptibility to neomycin appeared to be media-dependent. Resistance to gentamicin, nitrofurans and tetracycline was very high.
