Abstract

Irreversible functional stoppage of a brain cannnot be considered a new concept of human death. The life or death of a human being should be, as ever, recognized from the three indications: stoppage of breath, of heart beating and dilation of pupils. But, for a person whose brain functions are judged to have already stopped, positive medical treatments should not be requested, if the treatments have nothing but an effect to prolong his or her terminal time
