Utilization of Sensor Web and Spatial Information Platform as a Supportive Measure for Field Work Monitoring

Sensor web network is getting to be one of the most essential monitoring methods in both fields of Geoinformatics and Environmental studies. Dispersed sensors can be utilized to cover the surveying area densely, which tends be important for environmental studies. The purpose of this study is to develop a monitoring system based on sensor web network, especially to support field work data collection. Sensor nodes are designed to collect location (absolute coordinates) as well as the sensor values. Sensor nodes are networked with Zigbee wireless connection, which is connected to internet. Hence, collected data can be transferred immediately to the spatial information platform (e.g. Digital Asia server). Transferred information is stored in to the spatial database complying with the WMS (Web Mapping Server) standard which is accessible as an interactive map through internet browser. Digital Asia server also holds various spatial datasets (e.g. satellite images, base maps, Aerial maps, etc) which can be easily overlayed with the monitored results. These information platforms may play a significant role on deepening the understanding of the focusing phenomena and its occurring region
