Examination of Learnability of Electronic Educational Materials

In 2011, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan released the Vision for ICT in Education, indicating a certain level of a positive attitude on digital devices and textbooks.In this context, I placed the focus of this paper on the <relationship between digital technologies and learnability< and examined the relation between extensibility and learnability found in interfaces of electronic learning materials.I proceeded with the study in the following order: 1) a survey on the current situation of college/university students\u27 contacts with media in their learning activities; 2) analysis of preceding studies on human bodies and learnability; 3) discussion on the current standards for electronic books; and 4) creation of electronic educational materials pursuant to the present standard specifications and experiments utilizing examinees.The major findings I obtained through this study up to the experimental stage are as follows: A close correlation exists between human bodies and learnability. Creation of electronic learning materials carried out in the light of this fact also revealed that electronic educational materials with interfaces accompanied by physicality tend to better improve learnability than materials in simple forms of computerization. Moreover, addition of multimedia compatibility which is a merit deriving from digitalization has enormous potential to enhance learnability. I intend to continue this study by adding more analytical elements in the future
