At present, there is no cure for traumatic spinal cord and brain injuries. Therapies in use have only modest effect on outcome. Therefore, the need to better understand the biology of traumatic CNS injuries, making development of new therapies possible, is huge. The interest in Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) in the Central Nervous System (CNS) is mulifactorial and has implications in neural and vascular pathophysiology, regeneration and protection.
