On the Impurities in Magnesium Produced by the Reduction with Fe-Si Alloy

By studying the cause of the mixing of the impurities in magnesium produced by the reduction method the following results were obtained. A part of Fe, Al, Mn in magnesium produced comes from the reducing material, Fe-Si. Increasing the amount of Zn, Mn with the rise of ZnO, MnO_2, these impurities seem to come from dolomite. In longitudinal direction Mn, Cu, Al and Si are distributed poorly in the middle part and densely in the both ends of the sleeve, while Zn shows high value at the lower temperature side. Filtration of Mg vapour in its path, cutting off the dense impurity part and refining the other high purity side may contribute to prevent the above-mentioned impurities coming in the Mg deposit.還元生成マグネシウム中の不純物としてはZn，Fe，Si，Mn，Cuがあげられる。従来の鋳物用合金としてのマグネシウムの用途の外に，近年高純度の金属を得るための還元剤としてより純度の高いものを必要とし，不純物の混入防止に関する対策の確立が急務とされている。不純物の混入経路を追求するために還元実験，熱力学的計算等種々の面から検討を行った。またマグネシウム中の不純物は成分金属に特有の蒸気圧を示し，従って当然生成マグネシウム中における濃度分布の状況が相違するものと考えられ，不純物の分布状況を把握することによってその混入防止に対するより積極的な対策をたてることが出来るものと考えられる
