El objetivo de esta tesis fue profundizar, con enfoque biofísico, el estudio del transporte de agua a través de membranas biológicas impulsado por gradientes osmóticos o hidrostáticos, o por el acoplamiento con el movimiento de solutos. El contenido de esta tesis se divide en dos partes: 1) El estudio del movimiento de agua y solutos a través de una barrera epitelial, tomando como modelo, el de células T84 (de origen intestinal humano) y 2) El análisis de las propiedades osmóticas del primer canal hídrico clonado, la acuaporina-1 (AQP-1), en condiciones de control de las composiciones de los medios que bañan ambos extremos de la proteína insertada en una membrana biológica.
