En este trabajo, se han caracterizado distintos aspectos del metabolismo de poliaminas en el parásito tripanosomátido Crithidia fasciculata, poniendo especial énfasis en la enzima ornitina decarboxilasa (ODC), que cataliza el primer paso en la síntesis de estas sustancias. El transporte de poliaminas al interior del parásito es muy bajo, y solo se ve aumentado cuando se expone a los cultivos a un inhibidor de la ODC, como es el difluorometilornitina (DFMO). Este dato indicaría que en condiciones normales, la maquinaria biosintética del parásito es suficiente para satisfacer sus requerimientos, pero que al someter a C.fasciculata a un ayuno de poliaminas por bloqueo de su biosíntesis se produce una marcada inducción de la entrada de estas su...
