El virus de dengue es el principal patógeno humano transmitido por mosquitos para el cual aún no existen tratamientos antivirales efectivos. El genoma viral es una molécula de ARN compuesta por un único marco de lectura abierto flanqueado por las regiones 5' y 3' no codificantes. Mediante la manipulación genética de clones infecciosos y ensayos funcionales hemos, demostrado que la estructura del ARN en los extremos del genoma es dinámica y que la formación regulada de conformaciones alternativas es necesaria para la síntesis del ARN viral en células de mamíferos.
