El objetivo principal de esta tesis fue estudiar la epidemiología molecular de la infección por HBV y HDV, determinar los genotipos y analizar la variabilidad genética de los aislamientos detectados en distintas poblaciones y regiones de Argentina. Se estudiaron donantes de sangre de Buenos Aires y Misiones, y Amerindios de cuatro comunidades originarias: Mbyá-guaraníes (Misiones), Kollas (Jujuy), Sagua-Huarpes (San Juan) y Wichis (Formosa). Las cifras de prevalencia para el HBsAg variaron de 0,2 a 0,73% para donantes y de 1,4 a 1,7% para originarios.
