Rhizobium leguminosarum es una α-proteobacteria que puede establecer simbiosis con ciertas leguminosas. La formación de un biofilm puede favorecer la persistencia en suelos y en la rizosfera y también contribuir a la competitividad para la infección de la leguminosa. En esta tesis se estudiaron factores importantes para la adhesión a diversos sustratos y la formación de biofilms. Uno de los factores estudiados fue la proteína de adhesión RapA1, secretada a través del sistema PrsDE.
