If we define a commuter living in a zone i as an individual whose place of work is in some zone, j not equal to i , then clearly the proportion of commuters in i will be a function of, among other things, the size of i . In this paper, various models based upon work by Kulldorff (1955) are examined which enables estimates of the real level of commuting to be formed from such size-linked data.
