Examining the impact of job burnout on the well-being of human service workers

2014-05-02Presented here is a three‐study dissertation with an overarching goal of contributing to a greater understanding of the impact of job burnout on worker well‐being in the human service sector. Each of the three studies makes a unique contribution to this overarching goal. Chapter I presents a discussion integrating the logical link among the three studies, briefly introduces the purpose and description of each, and provides an overview of the theories driving the three studies. Chapter II (Study 1) is comprised of a systematic review of literature focusing on the effect of job burnout on worker well‐being in the human service sector. Chapter III (Study 2) presents findings from a test of a theory‐based model of the relationship between job demands and resources, job burnout, and job satisfaction over time. Chapter IV (Study 3) presents the findings of a test of a theory‐based model of the relationships between job demands and resources, job burnout, and psychological well‐being over time. An integrated discussion of study findings, conclusions and implications for future social work research and practice are presented in Chapter V
