UnrestrictedGlioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most malignant form of brain tumor. GBM displays characteristics of rapid invasiveness and massive vascularization. Despite modern advances in surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, GBM patients typically survive only 12 to 15 months after diagnosis. Therefore, there is still an urgent need to find alternative and more effective therapies. Tumor cells depend on the vasculature for nutrients and oxygen. In consideration of the highly vascularized environment of GBM, we hypothesized that antiangiogenic therapy, in combination with standard chemotherapy, would prove beneficial for curing or stabilizing this disease.
