UnrestrictedThis mixed methods, exploratory study examined the content and characteristic levels of integrative complexity of 45 first year medical students' written reflections upon a personal challenge/dilemma they had encountered in the clinical or classroom setting. As well, cognitive style was examined as a possible predictor of integrative complexity. All incoming medical students at the University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine (USC-KSOM) take the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator; as well, each first year student is asked to provide written reflections on their experiences.
