The Agrarian Sector on the Path to the Market

The country's economy is in the throes of an agonizing attempt to extricate itself from an extremely grave crisis. There is a natural way out on the global plane, and it is connected with the transition to a market. After all, a market economy is a normal economy that works for man, for the satisfaction of the consumer's demands, and not for the notorious plan. It is an economy in which production is based on consumption, is actually subordinate to consumption, and serves the consumer. Today everyoneânot only professional economists and heads of enterprises and management linksâis talking about the transition to a market. Party-state functionaries, who have a vague idea of the market, are also constantly talking about it. They constantly talk about the transition to a market not only for the sake of a fashionable slogan that makes it possible to cover up their deep-rooted conservatism and adopt an outwardly democratic appearance. By referring to the movement toward a market, they try to avoid the solution of elementary economic problems on which people's lives depend and to ascribe the reluctance and inability to solve these problems to the market. We have encountered something similar in the past when the movement toward a bright futureâcommunismâwas used to justify the constant poverty of the working people and their children. There is a graphic example here of how the partocracy is adapting to changing conditions in order to preserve its monopolistic-power status. But this will be discussed later.
