Nepal was until 2007 the only Hindu Kingdom of the world, but has since 2008 been a federal democratic republic. This also formally includes religious freedom. However, religion continues to play a major role in the daily life and in all cultural activities. In a way most people are a mixture of Buddhism and Hinduism, sharing celebration of the different festivals with each other. (Here a statue of Buddha, 1986)
