“Dr Irvine & the lepers.” Exterior view of the leper ward with patients on the grass outside, Dr Irvine stands amongst them. The leper ward was built on a spur of land called Gatheru, above the Kamara valley, and was funded by the Mission to Lepers with an annual grant of £240. ❧ The image is from the first twenty years of the Chogoria mission in Kenya, which was run by the Rev. Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974), from the collection entitled ‘Chogoria, glimpses into the past’
