Abstract

“Class in carpentry.” Interior view of the carpentry workshop with trainees cutting and planing wood. In 1926 an apprentice scheme was introduced with three years training, this was not popular and soon dropped but training in carpentry and building work continued in an unofficial way. ❧ This image is from the first years of the Chogoria mission in Kenya, which was run by the Rev. Dr Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974), from the collection entitled ‘Chogoria, 1922. The early days.
