“One of our German prisoners (von Buchsel).” Portrait of a German officer sitting on a rock and removing his shoes. Von Buchsel was probably captured during the conflict at Namirrue on 22 July 1918 when the King’s African Rifles were involved in heavy fighting with German forces. ❧ This image is from an album chronicling the war time experiences of Archibald Clive Irvine (1893-1974) in Portuguese East Africa with the Royal Army Medical Corps. During the war he met with missionaries in East Africa which in turn lead to him joining the mission at Tumutumu and then establishing the mission at Chogoria, both in Kenya
