Some of the children are holding slates. On the left missionary Michel and on the right deacon Nüßler is standing.; Max Michel (1881-1962), from Saxony, joined the Leipzig Mission in 1903. At first he worked in Gonja, 1911 he took over the station in Vudee. After the First World War and a stay in Germany he returned to East Africa and worked from 1929 to 1933 in Mbaga.; Friedrich (also known as Fritz) Nüssler (1900-1988), from Cologne, worked as a male nurse before serving the Leipzig Mission as a deacon in Machame from 1929 to 1931. Then he worked in Gonja until 1940, apart from a stay in Mbaga from 1933 to 1938
