Khama III became king of the Bamangwato in 1875 and he was baptized into the Lutheran church via the London Missionary Society.; François Coillard was the first missionary of the Société des missions évangéliques de Paris (Paris evangelical missionary society) who went in Barotseland to evangelize the Lozi people.
