Reardon entered Maryknoll in 1926 and was ordained to the priesthood on June 14, 1938. His first assignment was to the Kaying Vicariate in South China. In 1941 he was interned by the Japanese in Hong Kong and the following year was repatriated to New York. He was assigned to Chile, but illness brought him back to the United States.
