Abstract

Photograph of the H.I.M.S. Sapa, a Japanese tanker, coaling at Los Angeles Harbor, October 15, 1928. A large ship can be seen to the right of center next to a dock filled with pallets at left. Several men can be seen standing amongst the pallets, while a net can be seen extending from the ship to the dock. The dock also wraps around the back of the ship and can be seen to the right. A one-story building with a flat roof and rectangular doorways can be seen on the dock at left. What appears to be the shore can be seen in the distance. Japanese characters and "Tokai Maru" can be seen on the left side of the ship. See also CHS-m12776
