Abstract

Photograph of San Francisco earthquake damage, showing bread being baked for refugees in the ruins of a bake shop under the supervision of the United States Marines, April, 1906. Six men in hats stand in a line at center with two marines observing them from either side. They operate the large, brick oven which appears to be all that remains of that wall of the bakery. Coking supplies sit on a slab of wood in the foreground on the left. The ruins of the bakery as well as other buildings can be seen in the background on the right.; Copyrighted 1906, by Rieder, Cardinell & Co
