Abstract

Photograph of women packing lemons at the Sunkist Company, ca.1925. A sea of lemons flow through a conveyer belt on the left as women stack them into crates on the right. The women wear dresses and bobbed, curled hair as they gently handle the lemons with lightly-colored gloves. Male employees work against the wall in the background. Caption reads: "Packing Sunkist in one of the many packing houses in Southern California. The packers all wear gloves so that there is no danger of marring the fruit by scratches from finger nails. Each fruit is separately wrapped in a tissue wrap and packed uniformly in boxes"
