Two early automobiles are parked in the nook created by the juncture of two perpendicular, two-story adobes which are shown in the background and to the left. The adobe to the left is comprised of whitewashed brick for the lower level, and features wooden siding above. The adobe in the background is sided with wood throughout, and features a balcony that serves as an awning for the lower level. A bare, gnarled tree grows at their intersection just left of center. The adobe was originally part of a 19,000 acre ranch granted to Castro in 1823. Later only five or six acres were attached to the adobe
