Abstract

Photograph of exterior views of the U.S. Hotel at 170 North Main Street, and the Amestoy Building at 202 North Main Street, ca.1935. The U.S. Hotel (1862-1939) is the three-story Victorian-style building to the right, visible from across Main Street, wedged between various commercial shop fronts. It was one of the first hotels in the city. The Amestoy (1887-1958) is the second Victorian-style building to the left (north, across Market Street), with a sign that says "Leighton" over its entrance. Both of the Victorian buildings feature corner oriel windows extending from their second to third levels, as well as towers. The U.S. Hotel has a small octogonal turret at one corner, and a taller square turret and cupola at the other. The Amestoy ...
