Abstract

Photograph of a Mexican family lounging under a ramada at (or near?) Mission San Juan Capistrano, Orange County, ca.1885. Two elderly women, a younger woman, an elderly man and a younger man lounge underneath a ramada constructed of tree branches and straws (or hay?). Everyone is sitting except for the younger man who is standing next to a barrel. Chickens are pecking at the ground for food (at left). A hammock is tied to the posts of the ramada.; Picture file card reads: "L. to R. (left to right?); 1. (?) a Californian of the gente de razon; 2. Leona - San Juanena Mission Indian; 3. Fuliz - San Juanena Mission Indian; 4. Benuta - San Juanena Mission Indian; 5. (?) a Californian of the gente de razon.
