Attitudes of 25 Subscribers Toward Matters of Control and Authority in Their Diocesan Newspaper

The purpose of this thesis is to discover the attitudes and assumptions possessed by subscribers to a Catholic diocesan newspaper on matters related to the control of the publication and the authority it has for its readers. Under matters of control the thesis will attempt to discern subscribers\u27 attitudes in the following areas: Who is doing the editorial work, the journalistic work, at the paper? Are these people supervised or controlled in any fashion? What is the relationship of the Archbishop to the publication? Under matters of authority : What are subscribers\u27 attitudes toward lay vs. clerical operation of the paper? What does the \u27official\u27 status of the publication mean to them? Can they distinguish between morals and politics? Do they feel obliged to agree with statements of opinion and editorial judgements? Are they confused about these matters either personally and individually, or as a group
