A Content Analysis Study of Wisconsin\u27s Five Labor Presses, with the Purpose of Predicting Their Possible Effect Upon the Reader

Through a natural and historical growth the press has assumed the responsibility of providing man with knowledge of the events of the day so that man might live a truly human life. This responsibility is shared not alone by the daily press, but by the specialized press as well. The aim of this thesis is to investigate the content of the five major labor papers of Wisconsin with specialized emphasis on the amount of useful information they offer to the reader. The problem consists in measuring the content of the five papers according to five categories, News, Features, Pictures, Advertising and Editorial. The category News is then broken down further into classes called useful and non-useful information. The figures obtained through this study should give an indication of the regular practices of the labor press, and indicate whether their editors are aware of the responsibility of the labor press
