To study regulation of early eggshell genes in Drosophila melanogaster, an ovarian cDNA library was constructed and screened for sequences complementary to poly-A RNA selectively transcribed in stage 10 eggchambers. Two independent cDNA clones were isolated and characterized which showed selective synthesis by the ovarian follicle cells during the stages of vitelline membrane deposition
