The author argues in this dissertation that a mindset has become entrenched in the Western Christian tradition that mysticism has little or no contribution to make to the social institutions and structures that govern human communities. The root cause of this position is a lamentable division between the interior and exterior life of the human person named the \u27mentality of the split soul,\u27 which views faith as a personal matter to be kept separate from the public life of the individual.
