TRANSLATION OF CULTURE-BOUND TERMS IN THE SERIES THE BIG BANG THEORY ON THE EXAMPLE OF AMATEUR SUBTITLES

Kulturno pogojeni izrazi pri prevajanju velikokrat predstavljajo prevajalski problem. Od prevajalca zahtevajo, da pozna tako izhodiščno kulturno kot tudi ciljno kulturo, saj gledalec v ciljni kulturi pogosto ne pozna izraza izhodiščne kulture, zato je izraz treba prilagoditi in ustrezno prevesti. V magistrskem delu smo se ukvarjali z amaterskimi podnapisi humoristične serije Veliki pokovci in s kulturno pogojenimi izrazi v njih. Za prevajanje teh izrazov obstaja veliko različnih strategij različnih avtorjev, sami smo izbrali strategije po Diazu Cintasu in Santamariji Guinot. Ugotavljali smo, katere strategije so najpogosteje rabljene, podali pa smo tudi predloge za izboljšave podnapisov.Culture bound terms often present a problem in translating. When translating these terms, the translator has to be familiar with the source culture as well as the target culture. The target culture viewer often does not know source culture expressions, therefore we have to adapt and properly translate them. Primarily, we have focused on the amateur subtitles to the comedy series The Big Bang Theory and culture bound expressions in them. There are many different strategies for translating these expressions and different authors use various translation strategieswe have chosen the strategy according to Diaz Cintas and Santamarija Guinot. We wanted to establish, which strategies were most commonly used as well as provide our suggestions to improve the subtitles
