The analysis of the movie The king\u27s speech and its comparison to other similar literary works and to real historical facts

Diplomsko delo obravnava Hooperjev film The King’s Speech. V prvem delu analizira zgodbo in osebe, še posebej glavno osebo (the Duke of York), ki kasneje postane kralj George VI. Diplomska naloga ugotavlja, v kolikšni meri se film ujema z resničnimi zgodovinskimi dejstvi. Nekateri prizori odražajo resnične dogodke, medtem ko so drugi popolnoma izmišljeni. Predvsem pa pričujoče delo razkrije, kaj je pripomoglo k takšnemu uspehu samega filma. Predstavljena so še nekatera druga dela, ki opisujejo življenje in vladavino kralja Georgea VI. Nobeno izmed njih se glede na stopnjo dramatizacije in igralsko zasedbo ne more primerjati s Hooperjevim The King’s Speech. Vsekakor pa je izjema nedavno objavljena knjiga The King’s Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy, ki jo je napisal vnuk Lionela Loguea. Zgodba je precej podobna Hooperjevi, poleg tega pa je knjiga nastala na osnovi resničnega dnevnika Lionela Loguea ter časopisnih člankov, kar dejansko pomeni, da je v celoti resnična. Zadnji del zajema primerjavo filma The King’s Speech s knjigo The King’s Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy. Obe deli imata svoje prednosti in nekatere pomanjkljivosti. Film nudi večjo stopnjo dramatizacije, medtem ko je knjiga vir zanimivih in v celoti resničnih podatkov.This diploma deals with Hooper’s movie The King’s Speech. In the first part it analyses the story and the characters, especially the main character- the Duke of York who later becomes King George VI. It also discovers to what extent the movie corresponds to the real historical facts. Some scenes in the movie reflect real historical events, while others are completely imagined. Most of all, it examines things that contributed to the movie’s great success. In the second part it describes some other works about King George’s life and reign. None of them can be compared with Hooper’s The King’s Speech in terms of dramatisation and cast. Still, the recently published book The King’s Speech: How One Man Saved the British Monarchy by Logue’s grandson tells us a similar story about the reluctant King. What is even more, it is based on Logue’s real diary and newspaper articles, so it is completely authentic. In the last part this diploma focuses on similarities and differences between the book and the movie. Both of them have their advantages and disadvantages. The film is a successful dramatisation of the historical happening, while the book is a source of interesting and real historical facts
