A Study on the Entrepreneural History of Buskers:A Case of Buskers in Kaohsiung

[[abstract]]The busking can not only reflect the national culure, but can also preserve the traditional skills. In foreign countries, we can usually watch the performance of the buskers. And this kind of performance can help to promote the beautiful scenery of the city. Now, the busking fever also strucks Taiwan. In 2002, the system of busking examination and licensing was established by Taichung City government, whick has spread the street-art fashion all over the county. However, most people still think that the buskers are either “leading a vagrant life” or “poor and frustrated”. In fact, what most buskers want is just to show their artistic talent or to use their time well. That’s why the buskers choose such an easiest and cheapest way to perform on the street. At early stage, the buskers in Kaohsiung only performed by the side of Love-River, and then the buskers go everywhere in the city. The nameless buskers have now turned into one of the important elements for an art cultural city. Therefore, the entrepreneural history of the buskers is a worthy issue to be discussed. To address this issue, quantitative research methods are employed in this study. Data was collected primarily by means of “in-depth interview”, “participant observation”, and “secondary data collection”. First, the stories of the buskers in chronological order were divided into several periods of time. Second, we analyzed the success factors of the buskers. Four key dimensions were extracted which include “Personality”, “Market Segment”, “Business Model”, and “Development Strategy”. Finally, the results of this study illustrate the problems that the buskers are currently facing, and several suggestions are also given
