Studying the Impacts of Smartphone Usage on the Elementary School Students

[[abstract]]The aim of this study is to investigate the behavior of smartphone usage for elementary school students with different backgrounds and to explore the relationships between the parental rearing style and the healthy concept of students. A questionnaire was employed in this study by randomly sampling and surveying of 225 students, who are from the middle to high graders of an elementary school in Fong Yuan district, Taichung city. The data was collected from the valid 215 questionnaires at the effective response rates reached 95.6% of 225 copies and was then analyzed by t-test, ANOVA and Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient using statistics software SPSS based on the assumption of the objectives of the study. Finally, the conclusions of the study were drawn as below. For elementary school students of using smartphone, their parental rearing style has a tendency toward more indulgent and the healthy concept of students is to be the property in the high-intermediate level. However, there was a partial discrepancy of using smartphone behavior existed in between the different backgrounds of students and their parental rearing style, while the different backgrounds and the healthy concept of students does not show any inconsistency. Overall, the relationships and predictability in healthy concept are obviously swayed by other factors, such as the different backgrounds, the smartphone using behavior and the parental rearing style, with the last one being the most explanatory
