The Study on The Relationships of Volunteer Motivation, Transformational Leadership and Volunteer Participation Behavior

[[abstract]]Encouraged by government and private sectors, Taiwanese people’s participation in voluntary service has become increasingly important in recent years in terms of social development. However, studies found that the turnover rate of volunteers is too high to sustain service effectiveness, and that motivation is predominant in determining the continuity of volunteer works; in addition, some researches also indicate that the degree of transformational leadership and socialization are relatively higher for leaders of volunteer services than other non-profit organizations such as trade union leaders. The main purpose of this study is to explore the relationships among transformational leadership style, motivation and participation behavior for volunteers. Volunteer teams in Tainan City was chosen as the research objects. A total of 273 questionnaires were sent and 225 returned, of which 213 was valid. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, analysis of variance, multiple regression were employed to analyze the collected data. The main findings are as follows: (1)The correlations among each dimension of volunteer motivation and participation behavior are significantly positive, (2)The correlations among the dimensions of transformational leadership style and volunteers behavior are significantly positive, (3) The volunteer transformational leadership style and volunteer motivation can significantly predict participation behavior
