A Study on The Relationship between Organizatioal Culture and School Effetiveness-from the Perspective of Total Quality Management

[[abstract]]In recent years, junior high schools have been introducing total quality management (TQM) to improve the quality of education in the hope of elevating school performance as a whole. While Different organizational cultures respond to TQM differently, teachers’ job satisfaction is also considered as an important factor that will influence teaching quality. By adopting widely-accepted criteria of TQM implementation as the measures of organizational effectiveness, this research is aming to explore the effects of organizational cultures and job satisfaction might have on the school performance. The study objects were the 20 junior high schools which were under evaluation of Bureau of Education, Tainan City Government, in 2009 and 2010. 400 questionnaires were distributed to the teachers in those schools, among which 321 were valid. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equations modeling (SEM) were conducted to test the fitness of good among data and models, and to explore the direct as well as indirect effects among various latent variables. It was found that organizational culture indeed has a positive significant effect on teachers’ job satisfaction, and that teachers’ job satisfaction has a positive significant effect on organizational effectiveness. Implications and recommendations based upon the findings of this study were also made, which should be considered valuable to the education reform and organization development for secondary schools in Tainan City
