Design Faculty and Students’ Perspectives and Attitudes toward Wed-based Instruction and Platform Design

[[abstract]]ABSTRACT Even though e-learning has become the new mainstream in modern education, there is a lack of web-based learning platforms for Departments of Design. This study aims to explore the perspectives and attitudes of design faculty and students toward web-based instruction in order to understand the feasibility of constructing a web-based platform for Departments of Design. In this study, both qualitative and quantitative methods were employed. Eighteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with eighteen design faculty members and 270 design undergraduate students were surveyed with a questionnaire. Results show that design faculty and students think that web-based design instruction is feasible based on the types of design classes and divided into “entirely web-based instruction” and “computer-assisted instruction.” However, the learning platform for Departments of Design should provide useful functions and suitable learning tools, and faculty members should use effective teaching strategies to increase learning outcomes
