An Exploratory Study of the Relationship between Leadership Styles and Organizational Efficiency of a Non-Profit Emergency and Rescue Organization

[[abstract]]Today?s non-profit organizations are highly involved in public welfare and have a great influence on people?s lives. This study focuses on the leadership and organizational efficiency of non-profit organizations that assist in disaster relief. This is a qualitative study of the Nantou phoenix volunteers, who give their time and effort to rescue people and who are all highly skilled emergency workers. The author interviewed 15 lieutenants of the Nantou phoenix volunteer group, did an historical overview and participant observation. Narrative analysis methods were used to study and analyze what influence the leadership type has on the organizational efficiency of a non-profit organization. Leadership styles and organizational efficiency are tightly interconnected. Relationships and assignment styles are very important factors in successful outcomes for non-profit organizations. Leadership methods and types vary according to the organizational scenario. A leader has to emphasize working relationships and assignments equally and to choose cadre members carefully, to set up efficient and interesting training and recruitment programs and to be able to obtain funding from diverse sources. The organization?s functions and assignments must be clear and precise. To build the most efficient emergency rescue team, the leader needs to have an excellent training and recruitment program, to keep encouraging improvement in professional skills, to attach equal importance to group discipline and mobilization and to build relationships with government units
