A Study of Parenting Stress in Parents of Children with Disabilities

[[abstract]]Abstract The purpose of this research was to explore potential predictors of parenting stress in parents of children with disabilities. Further understanding of parenting stress in parents of children with disabilities may assist to provide them better services and resources. A questionnaire was applied as instrument in this survey. The sample consists of 238 children with disabilities under 18 years old. Parenting Stress Index-short form was used to collect data. Two hundred and thirty eight parents participated and completed the Parenting Stress Index-short form. The following results of this research were found： 1. The type of marriage, household, nationality of parents, family incomes, stress of the economy, education of father, and severity of the disabilities were indicated that parenting stress significantly related to the marital status. 2. Furthermore , the type of household, family incomes, and severity of the disabilities were correlated with the parenting stress.
