[[abstract]]This study investigates the design issue of massive multiplayer online game (MMOG) for learning. MMOG for learning has become one of the trends in game industry. The combination of game and learning theory enhances the motivations of learning. Gaming is basically a course of participation and interaction. Game players also expect to be challenged and immersed into game world. We have conducted survey on MMOG players in Taiwan. Analysis of the survey is employed to explore the motivations and behaviors of MMOG players. The results show that players’ motivations are the social learning interaction, leisure, and self realization. From the survey we have found that player’s motivation matched with Joseph Campbell’s hero’s journey
