"The investigation consisted of free-flight model tests in hovering and forward flight through the transition speed range up to the point where conversation would be made to wing-borne flight. Dynamic stability characteristics of the model were also calculated for correction with flight results. Because of a small static margin and speed instability, artificial damping in pitch was needed to obtain satisfactory pitch characteristics. No problem was experienced with roll or yaw through the transition speed range."--P.
