Greek manufacturing firms suffer from low productivity and competitiveness, especially when measured against their counterparts in the other member states of the EEC. The widely-held belief is that the core of the problem is managerial performance, and that it could be improved by careful attention to the ways in which managerial resources are acquired and developed. Nancy Papalexandris has undertaken research into the extent of the deficiency in Greece, and makes prescriptions to cure it. Her views on management staffing and development have applicability to business environments in societies similar to that in Greece.
