Add to ORKGThe Wiener Neustädter Altar at the head of the north nave was ordered in 1447 by Emperor Frederick II (Holy Roman Emperor). The altar is composed of two triptychs, the upper being four times taller than the lower one. When the lower panels are opened, the gothic grate of the former reliquary depot above the altar is revealed. When the upper panels are opened, gilded wooden figures depicting events in the life of the Virgin Mary are displayed
