Plague Rages Unabated In City Despite Drastic Rule

• The influenza epidemic continues to grow in Denver, even will all of the precautions in place. • City health board and police force worked throughout the day ensuring that public meetings did not take place and orders were obeyed. Any women with nursing training who can offer their services are asked to by the Red Cross. • Names of dead listed. • The number of deaths from pneumonia reported for the first half of October is largest ever in Denver. It exceeds the record set last April two times over. • Washington has just required the officials in Denver to submit daily reports of the number of deaths due to pneumonia and influenza. Before they only had to report weekly. • Many unnecessary (people are not sick, another doctor has already been called) calls are being phoned into office of the health manager. This detracts from physicians’ efforts. Office of the health manager asks that persons who do not have necessary business do not bother their staff. • Many ask if there is a restriction on travel. There is not. The government discourages travel at the present time but they will not stop people from traveling. • Order that stops all public meetings of any kind also prohibits public funerals.
